Mariam’s House – The Golden Legacy of Fatehpur Sikri. Tucked inside the royal palace complex of Fatehpur Sikri, Mariam’s House, also known as Sunhera Makan (The Golden House), is a gem of Mughal architecture and maternal legacy. This elegant palace belonged to Hamida Banu Begum, mother of Emperor Akbar, who held the title Mariam Makani. Built on a raised platform with arched hallways and surrounded by verandahs on three sides, it has a unique design that makes it appear as a single-storey structure—though it is actually two-storeyed. The central rectangular hall is flanked by four rooms, and the rooftop on the northern side features a palanquin-style pavilion topped with graceful finials. Though the upper floor is now restricted to visitors, its beauty and architectural brilliance remain unmatched.
