His Majesty Badshah-e-Awadh Shah-e-Zaman Nasir-ud-din Sikandar Jah Muhammad Wajid Ali Shah, King of Awadh, c. 1883. In 1856, Lord Dalhousie annexed the Awadh and the deposed King was exiled to Garden Reach in Metiabruz, then a suburb of Kolkata. This was widely resented in India in general and in Awadh in particular.
